Senior Associate - Copernicus Cost Centre Services
We are currently looking to expand our network of branch offices to cope with an ever increasing number of clients asking us to review their Business Electricity and Business Gas costs. Branch offices operate as independent businesses under licence from Copernicus Const Centre Services giving the owners the opportunity to make a substantial income from helping local businesses.
The Problem
Every successful Business provides a cost effective solution to other peoples problems, and we are no exception.
Most Businesses focus on their core products, invariably they fail to check whether they are getting best value from their own suppliers. Investigating and challenging these suppliers is often time consuming and complex. But the message is clear: “If you don’t look, you don’t find.”
A survey recently found that 57% of 1,000 independent retailers had made complaints to their Energy Suppliers and Energy Watch (now dissolved) received on average 30,000 calls a year from small businesses with over half of the complaints still awaiting replies a year later.
Here are some actual Horror Stories to illustrate how seemingly simple mistakes mean customers are being cheated every which way (figures have been rounded up and are net of fees and VAT):
- £26,000 of overcharging due to a basic typing error (incorrect tariff).
- £9,500 because two suppliers were charging the same meter at the same time.
- £13,000 for 6 years worth of double charging for the cost of meter rentals.
- £22,000 for a typing entry for charges that should not have been applied.
- £30,000 for incorrect meter readings going back 3 years.
- £56,000 for transposed charges (incorrect unit price entered for an item).
- £29,000 for 5 digit meter reading being used to calculate billing instead of 6.
- £3,500 because the computer didn’t recognise that a meter reset itself to 0 at 100,000 units.

Remember, we investigate on a No Win, No Fee basis. It won’t cost your clients a penny for us to look (and even if we don’t find anything they have the reassurance that we have looked).
The Solution
We have developed a complete solution to the problems of Local Businesses in ensuring that they aren't being overcharged and that they are on the lowest cost tarriff for their given circumstances for their Business Electricity and Business Gas.
At the heart of the business is an online management system which runs the day to day operations of the business, acting both as a workflow control and an expert system analysis information and making recommendations.
The majority of our services are paid for out of monies recovered or savings made making it a very easy sell to pursuade busy business owners and managers to use our services.
The Cost Centre Services concept is not limited to energy supplies; other non-core overheads, products and services because cost reduction analysis principles can be applied to almost any cost category.
Summary
The processes required to enable us to offer its bespoke cost analysis services are highly detailed and complex. Over the past ten years we have developed the Client Management Centre (CMC), a sophisticated software package designed to analyse all aspects of energy procurement and management. Further development is planned to cover other non-core overheads, the most urgent being telecommunications and water. These will strengthen client relationships and enhance long-term associations (as well as providing more layers of income for Business Partners).
Finally, our concept is designed to operate as a small consultancy specialising in cost reduction, working with a loyal and consistent client base. The ability to generate ongoing, sustainable cost reductions is a valuable feature, with the absolute potential of keeping clients for many years.
